Outdoor Adventures Week 8 Day 3

Updated: Aug 22, 2019

Welcome back everyone! I couldn't wait for the day to start so I could see all the fun our campers got up to!

This morning, our orange peppers worked together to raise both flags before leading everyone through the pledges. Once pledges were done, Camp Director Jordan got every ready to go with the "Hippo Song!"

It was another busy day down in the garden! The peppers harvested a bit of produce before focusing their efforts on weeding, mulching or cleaning up the garden.

When I stopped by the barns on my way back from the garden, I saw a lot of cooperative campers! Between feeding, giving them fresh water and making sure their home was clean, the campers did a great job working together to complete their morning task.

Under the tent, our campers turned into little engineers for the day! Using popsicle sticks, aluminum foil, paper and tape, they created their own mini boats. Once their boats were complete, they put them to the test to see if they would float and sail across the water!

Speaking of water, the campers became water wizards when they tried to transfer water from one cup to another using only a paper towel. How can that happen? Because of capillarity and adhesion, water can"stick" to matter and can use it to move.

After keeping busy throughout the day and spending lots of time outside, the campers ventured into Garden Kitchen. Today, they made raspberry-kale smoothies using raspberries and kale from the garden. I even tried to sneak in the room to try and get some!

The peppers also enjoyed some savory patty pan squash pancakes that they made using our summer squash from the garden.

On Friday at 3:30, we will be having a Farm Show. Each pepper group will perform a skit about something they did or learned while at camp. Today, the pepper groups worked together to brainstorm different ideas and picked their roles.

What a fun day! I can't believe how much out peppers learned today! I'm excited to see everyone tomorrow for another jam-packed day!

Until tomorrow!

P.S. Don't forget that we have fresh honey and beeswax candles for sale! Also, make sure to arrive early for pick up on Friday so that you can see your pepper(s) perform their skit. The Farm Show will begin at 3:30!
