Greetings campers and parents, and happy Tuesday! The morning started with the daily flag ceremony. The peppers learned one of the most loved songs here at the farm: The Hay Song.
Afterward, campers headed to the barns to do animal chores. The red peppers cared for the poultry by giving them fresh food and water. They also learned how to catch and handle chickens.
Out in the garden, peppers got to pick and taste carrots, as well as smell all the fresh herbs. The Bowers garden has a variety of herbs including basil, mint, dill, and lavender.
The peppers learned what chickens eat by placing them in different environments and watching their behavior. They watched as the chickens ate worms, leaves, and bugs.
There are bugs everywhere! Campers hiked all around the farm catching different kinds of insects. Then they were able to observe them up close!
It's time to get cooking! Today in STEM, campers used boxes and tin foil to build an oven. They will continue to work on these throughout the week, and put them to the test on Friday.
Today in Garden Kitchen, campers made fresh salsa and chips using cilantro from the garden! Follow the recipe card below to make this savory snack.
We got a special visit from the Bowers' beekeepers! They taught campers about honey and its harvesting process. Peppers also taste-tested avocado honey, which was so yummy!
Thanks for stopping by for day two of Know and Grow Your Food Camp! There's much more to come so be sure to check back tomorrow!
