Hello everyone and happy horse day! This morning, both the red and orange peppers helped raise the flag for the last time. Such a bittersweet moment! Also, all campers and camp staff posed for a group photo.
Campers did chores and got to say goodbye to some of their favorite animals! The green peppers fed and groomed the horses while the orange peppers fed the animals in the lower barn.
The highlight of the day was definitely the horse adventure. Campers got to ride on horses Cowgirl, Lady, and Charity. Each child that rode a horse had a photo taken that will be sent out next week in a google folder!
Peppers examined the vitals of Patches the pony. First, they listened to his resting heart beat with a stethoscope. Then, they took him for a jog to increase his heart rate and listened to the change in pace.
In the garden, peppers harvested cucumbers for today’s recipe. They also picked fruits and veggies to stock the farm stand. Make sure to stop by after camp to get fresh Bower’s produce!
Today in garden kitchen, campers made refrigerator pickles. If you want to make these at home follow the recipe card or the recipe listed below!
To end the day, campers did a goat physical. They examined Flo’s eyelids, rumen, udder, and hooves. Ms. Jessica also demonstrated how to trim hooves.
What a great way to end the week! Campers enjoyed spending time with the horses as well as taking a closer look at some of the other animals on the farm. Thank you for coming to Animal Camp and we hope to see you soon!
