About the Farm

Bowers School Farm was purchased in the mid-1960’s by Bloomfield Hills Schools to be used as a land laboratory. We are housed on 93 acres within Bloomfield Hills.

Animals such as sheep, horses, and a llama graze the pastures. We also house poultry of all types, rabbits and goats. Every animal has a purpose here at the farm and farm equipment is used daily to maintain the property as an educational agriculture production enterprise.

Bowers School Farm is open daily and year-round for various educational programs and community events. For more information about scheduling a tour or private event, please call 248.341.6481!

Kaitlynn Steketee – Camp Coordinator

Hello All! I am Kaitlynn Steketee and I am the Camp Coordinator here at Bowers Farm! I am originally from Long Island, New York. I have worked as a camp counselor and director for 12 years at Camp Ma-He-Tu, an all-girls sleepaway camp in upstate New York. There, I had the opportunity to empower young ladies to be strong, independent, and confident. I have a background in environmental education, and enjoy sharing my passion for nature and our relationship with the environment through educational programming. I graduated from Molloy College with a Masters degree in Childhood and Special education. I am looking forward to creating a fun, educational camp experience where children get hands-on experiences with plants and animals to emphasize the importance of the natural world and its impact on our own lives. I can’t wait to bring my passion for science, education, and fun camp culture to the program this year!

Mallory Weiner - Group Leader (Barnyard Buddies)

Hi! My name is Mallory, and I am looking forward to my third year working at Bowers with the pre-schoolers in Barnyard Buddies! I am an elementary education major at Michigan State University, heading into my senior year. Over the last few years, Barnyard Buddies has helped me learn so many valuable skills for teaching and has allowed me to explore the farm with some of the most amazing, curious campers. I can't wait for camp this year to continue doing what I love!

Natalie Timmer - Group Leader (Vet. Science)

Hi there! My name is Natalie Timmer and I am a nationally licensed veterinary technician. I have been in clinical practice for six years. I started at Bower's as an intern while I was in school and fell in love with large animal medicine. Helping teach some of the Healthy Hearts, Hooves, and Hocks camps of last year brought me so much joy! I have since developed, with the incredible Bower's team, the veterinary science camp. And I could not be more excited to come back to direct and teach! I have a passion for animal medicine and welfare, and love to teach our future generations about long-term sustainability. I can't wait to meet all of you!

David Snyder - Garden Leader

I am excited to be working in the garden this season. I'm helping to transform the garden to a no/low till arrangement, which makes it easier to access each crop. I received my bachelor's in Biblical studies with a missions emphasis from Frontier School of the Bible in the spring of 2018.  I enjoy being outdoors with my wife, meeting new people, strenuous physical labor, observing and speculating about the ecology of different wild animals of all types, cutting and trimming trees and figuring out how to overcome obstacles to tasks. I spend my free time active at my church and my faith is important to me. I am looking forward to seeing you in the garden this summer!

Ashley Green - Garden Kitchen Leader

Hi! My name is Ashley Green and I will be the Garden Kitchen Leader this summer. I am a senior studying Environmental Science at Eastern Michigan University and am passionate about food systems and agriculture. I am eager to try new recipes and make bright memories with the campers!
